Drought resistant plants whose stem and leaves are adapted to storing water are referred to as succulents. They are normally found in arid and semi-arid areas, but that one does not mean that they cannot be found in other areas as well. Succulents plants can both be grown outdoor and indoor. Let us see some of the ways in which we can care for succulents.
The pot that you are using to plant your succulent plants should be able to drain water. This is because it is not used to surviving in areas with a lot of water. The porous holes in the pot are going to remove the overflow water from the pot. The y can do well in places with very high temperatures and little moisture. Too much water is a disadvantage since it may cause the plant to rot, contract diseases or die if overwatered and you would not like your plant to die. Overwatering is also going to be controlled by porous holes.
Another measure is to use the appropriate soil. It is important because using the correct soil will make the plant to thrive better without difficulties. You should the soil that has good drainage that cannot hold water for long since this plants does not require a wet soil. It should have big spaces to allow water pass through it faster. AS a result the plant will do well since it has the necessary amount of moisture for its proper growth.
Enough sunlight should also be supplied to the succulent plants. These plants are used to extremely high temperatures. In places with hot and dry climate with plenty of sunlight succulents does better. You should therefore ensure that they have good supply of sunlight at least the whole day or half a day. During winter when there is no enough sunlight they always go dormant as a result of low sunlight supply.
You should also ensure that you water them heavily. Succulent plants should be watered heavily once but not regularly as they don’t require a lot of water. Prevent the plant from rotting and dying by providing enough water. It is advisable that you water plants once but heavily as very little water will also leave them yearning for more.
Another care for succulents is by maintaining warm temperatures. This category of plants require very high temperatures. So the temperature around your place should be regulated at least to match their normal temperature requirements. Ensure that the temperature is neither too low nor too high.
It is recommended that during winter season the outdoor succulents should be taken inside the room. The temperature of the room is always higher than the surrounding temperature during winter.
